Vallø Golfklub

On a sunny day, 45 minutes from Copenhagen City, Denmark we arrived at Vallø Golfklub. Heading for the clubhouse we walk the cobbles in the finest yard, surrounded by the cozy clubhouse and the tempting outside bar. No time for a Royal beer right now though, first we have a 18th hole job to do and we move toward the first tee. In front of us we have 5777 meters golf course with 5 par-3 holes, 9 par-4 holes, 4 par-5 holes. Looking down the scorecard, hole 8 stands out... with only 101 meters this is probably one of the shortest par 3 holes I have ever played.

- The smell from surruonding farms...

Conclusion

Chris Haspell, architect of the course had inspiration from British inland heath- and links courses, where the wind and rough rules. This day we felt the wind and I like it a lot! Just a new challenge and a chance to test our skills this beautiful day.

First impression of the course: Greens were a bit hard and of course it didn't make it any better for the greenkeepers to choose this day to top-dress greens. The overall impression of the course were fine, but as can be seen in the pictures, there are several areas on the track that seem unattended.

Last impression going down the 18th hole along the dried out lake didn’t improve our overall rating from Vallø Golfklub. But all in all a great trip and we will return!

The photo tour

Favorite hole & Signature hole

Hole 4… Par 5. 437 meters. Didn’t get any photos from this hole, but definitely my favorite hole. Blinded by some trees and bushes from the tee you only have a little area to play the ball unless you are true longhitter. Dog leg right and then the green appears with a good chance to birdie the hole!

Best par 3

126 meters. HCP Index 5 with an elevated green falling down towards the water.

2nd hole at Vallø Golfklub (126 meters par 3)

3rd hole at Vallø Golfklub (437 meters par 5)

5th hole at Vallø Golfklub (391 meters par 4)

11th hole at Vallø Golfklub (322meters par 4)

Birdie hole

Par 4, 262 meters, HCP index 18. Played a driver against the wind, down the middle of the wide fairway, leaving approx. 60 meters into the green.

12th hole at Vallø Golfklub (262 meters par 4)

14th hole at Vallø Golfklub (355 meters par 4)

15th hole at Vallø Golfklub (126 meters par 3)

Best par 5

Hole 16, 522 meters, HCP index 5. Playing a rescue to land just before the first bunker 200 meters, then a 4-iron... watch the out-of-bounds just left of the fairway!

16th hole at Vallø Golfklub (522 meters par 5)

18th hole at Vallø Golfklub (405 meters par 4)
