Sand Valley Golf Resort

Our planned golftrip to Portugal was cancelled due to Covid-19, so on a short notice we found paradise in Poland :) Sand Valley Golf Resort... I wrote an email friday afternoon to the Commercial Director and sunday morning 4 am we set course for Poland. A 12 hours trip in car from Copenhagen, Denmark. Of course under normal circumstances we would have preferred to travel by plane, but having 3 cancelled trips already this year we didnt't want to take the risk!  

With the possibility to arrive in 5-12 hours in 3 different ways, plane, ferry and car, this resort is within the entire Scandinavian target group for avid golfers! Transfer from Sofia airport are included in the Stay and Play package.

Food and drink

Due to corona times a bit reduced service from the restaurant but order before your morning round and almost everything is possible when you ask the friendly staff at the bar and kitchen :) We played 2 rounds each day. Driving range 7:30 am, breakfast served 8:00 am, tee off 8:40 am, club sandwich and the delicious Tyskie beer served 13:00, second round 14:20. Drive back to your villa in the buggy and take a shower, maybe take a swim in your private pool and then head back for a cozy evening in the clubhouse restaurant & bar.

5 minutes in car from the resort there's a bar with the opportunity to play pool or get some unknown muscles used on the dance floor ;) The town of Elblag is 15 minutes drive from the golf course.

Accomodations

Sand Valley Golf Resort - Scandinavian in design and American in spirit – the onsite luxury Villas perfectly complement your golfing experience. In total over 100 beds. All Villas are conveniently located just few meter’s from the 1st tee and the Clubhouse – they accommodate 6 to 12 people each and are equipped with saunas, designer kitchens and free WIFI. Larger houses come complete with their own private swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

Not many cons.. maybe the course rating - our group was struggling finding points on the course. With and average 8 below our normal game :|

Conclusion

Absolute stunning resort and worth recommending to anyone who loves to play golf.

We stayed 6 days and maybe it was one too many. After playing the same course 6 times on 3 days we decided to play some best ball tournaments and that revealed a whole different course. Coming from Scandinavia we are not used to so much sand and large bunkers, but the large bunkers which characterizes the course can be played with a hybrid or even 3-wood without getting into trouble.

Best tip: Bring plenty golf balls ;) and remember your birdie book (course guide)

Birdie Hole

1st hole at Sand Valley Golf Resort (335 meters from blue tee, par 4, hcp index 15)
Beware of the out-of-bounds on the right. Anywhere on the fairway is good, but playing to the middle will afford the best view of the green. Short is always the best place to miss the green.

Signature hole and best par 3

3rd hole at Sand Valley Golf Resort (115 meters from blue tee, par 3, hcp index 13)
Take aim at the flag and hope for the best. If the flag is in the front bowl, you don’t want to be long. And don’t forget to account for the wind.

Favorite hole

9th hole at Sand Valley Golf Resort (317 meters from blue tee, par 4, hcp index 3)
The fairway will feed balls from right to left, so aim straight at the big pine tree. Green sits on a plateau on the far-side of a canyon, so the approach is all carry. Make sure to have enough club and only attack the left pin if you absolutely need to make a birdie.

Bogey hole

11th hole at Sand Valley Golf Resort (415 meters from blue tee, par 4, hcp index 2) Right of the fairway bunker is the optimal line, although much riskier drive than playing to the left. Back of the green slopes away, so if the flag is at the back the clever shot might be to run one in.

17th hole at Sand Valley Golf Resort (188 meters from blue tee, par 3, hcp index 12)
Start a long-iron or a fairway wood to the right of the flag. All balls carrying the bunker break hard from right to left.

18th hole at Sand Valley Golf Resort (319 meters from blue tee, par 4, hcp index 18)
Favour the left side of the fairway, as the right side of the fairway kicks all balls towards trouble on the right. The green is long and steep so good distance control is critical.

Shake hands or bump elbows after your round and enjoy this view over some of the other holes. Hole 10 (par 3) in the background...
