On the 1st November 1924, Lord Sackville of Knole Park drove from the first tee of the newly completed J.F. Abercromby course. He did so as landlord of the estate and member of the newly formed Knole Park Golf Club.
"The designer J Abercromby liked to start his courses with a par 3, and this is a particularly impressive example. At nearly 200 yards, and sloping gently uphill, it takes a very well struck long iron to reach the green. To the right the land falls off sharply all the way to the hole, while a line of bunkers running diagonally across the fairway will catch anything under hit. The green itself slopes from back to front, and is very firm and slick (like all the greens at Knole), so a par at the first is a very fine score indeed."
Central to the function of the club, the clubhouse offers a welcoming atmosphere for members and visitors alike.
The golf course, its immaculate condition, and its magnificent setting is what Knole Park is famous for; but equally the clubhouse, much of it original, offers a warm welcome to returning golfers or members and their guests enjoying a quiet meal or drink in the company of their friends.
Our conservatory and dining room look directly onto the course and in the summer, long evenings can be enjoyed on the South facing terrace and in the winter a roaring log fire provides a welcome back to the clubhouse.
