The castle at Antognolla takes its name from a powerful local family, and dates back at least to the twelfth century. Even older is the crypt below the castle’s chapel, which was part of a Benedictine monastery, and once housed the remains of Ercolano, the patron saint of Perugia.
Today the castle lies at the heart of a 500 hectare estate of exceptional natural beauty, and overlooks the beautiful 18 hole course, designed by legendary architect Robert Trent Jones Jr.
Antognolla is fast becoming a globally renowned course, providing one of the most spectacular rounds of golf in Europe. Rated among Italy’s best golf courses, Antognolla was selected to host the 2019 PGA Italian Championship.
The exquisite harmony of the landscape and natural environment of the resort’s world-class 18-hole course make for a truly stunning destination. The course is open all year round, and the recent upgrades to the irrigation, allow for exceptional playing conditions.
Umbria, as a destination is one of Italy’s best kept secrets, and the privacy and seclusion that the valley in which the Antognolla course sits, is part of the charm and appeal. Nestled amongst forest covered hills, it feels like every hole is a ‘signature hole’ such is the beauty at Antognolla.
