Our story began on September 12, 1970 with the meeting of the notary René Prada and Philippe de Boussac, on the course located on the slopes of Pech David and which, at the time, had only 9 holes. It was then that Philippe confided to René that it would be wise to build an 18-hole golf course. This was obvious to our two golfers, given that golf was a great success at that time.
This is how the lawyer set out on the hunt for land 25-30 kilometers maximum from Toulouse. In a short time, René Prada''s efforts were completed. The promise to sell finalized at Nivelle in the Basque Country led to the sale quite quickly. The land of 89 hectares located in the town of Buzet-sur-Tarn, near a small stream crossing it, named Palmoula ("with a u"), was sold for the sum of 800,000 F. And the statutes of the sports association were deposited on April 20, 1973.
Less than 30 years after the last atrocities of the war committed in the forest of Buzet, René Prada embarked on the construction of the Golf de Palmola ("without the u"). The construction of the course was entrusted to the architect Michael Fenn, creator of the golf courses of Reims and Lyon. He then designed a course of 6100 meters, a par 72, in which a hole stands out. The most difficult hole on the course, hole number 2, a left dog-leg going downhill.
From the outset, the notary, who was later the 1st club president regretted that the green of hole number 9 was not ready near the clubhouse. Hence the 10-hole course that we currently offer.
Golf has been welcoming fans of the little white ball for 40 years already ! Palmola is “a brand”! Dominique Barquez was the first pro to give his lessons on the practice built by the architect. Two league titles in France for gentlemen in 1 st division. Many titles of champion of France for Patrice Barquez, today one of the best French golfers. Without forgetting, the arrival of the course in the "Top 10" of the best clubs in France, classification established by the magazine Golf Européen in 2001.
In 40 years, a lot of water has flowed in the Palmoula stream. All the same, Renée Prada''s promise remains relevant "May Palmola be one of the most beautiful golf courses in France" !
