On November 4, 1934, a group of members of the Rotary Club of our city founded the Tandil Golf Club. In this nucleus of founding partners, the vital force was eloquently concentrated in the person of Don Luis Varela, ultimately the first president of the aforementioned sports and social group.
The aforementioned leader was efficiently seconded on the technical-golfer side by Mr. Edgard Graham, and substantially supported by Mr. Robin Stuart, then general manager of the Southern Railroad in our city. Through the vision and personal generosity of these and other members, the rapid development of the club was aspired.
The old Nogales court located in the current Villa Laza was the scene of the first sporting events, while calculations, negotiations and conversations were carried out in an attempt to increase the heritage with another larger property, which would give rise to the use of other elements for the benefit of associates.
Christmas Eve in 1941 was a historic date in the institutional development of the Tandil Golf Club. It is that on that occasion, Mr. Liborio Brivio, with a firm and sure hand and aware of the productiveness of the investment, signed the respective purchase and sale ticket for part of the current 30-hectare land, which came to fulfill the aspirations of all those pioneers who, Seven years ago, they began to struggle steadily for the development of this sport.
The 9-hole construction was the scene of countless competitions not only local but also regional.
But the growth that the Institution had in the coming years led to the thought of expanding the field to the long-awaited 18 holes. After arduous and intense negotiations, the acquisition of neighboring properties was achieved and with the design of the professional Emilio Serra in 1987, the 18 holes were inaugurated.
As of age date, different competitions began to be played at the regional and national level, being the venue on three occasions for National Championships for Minors, sponsored by the Argentine Golf Association.
A fact that occupies a more than important milestone in the history of the club is the creation of the School for Minors, which over the years has brought so many fruits and achievements to our Institution, crowning those sporting achievements with obtaining in the years 2004 and 2006 of the National Interclubes Championship of Gentlemen.
