Le Touquet “Paris-Plage” was born in 1837. Pine forests, sand dunes, beautiful beaches, and of course the sea itself - the beauty of the area was such that Villemessant, then director of Figaro, nicknamed the place Paris-Plage (Paris-Beach). An Englishman named Sir John Whitley loved the landscape so much that he decided to create a seaside resort here on the English model, and so Le Touquet came to be.
In the dynamism of the 20s and 30s Le Touquet became the playground of the rich and famous - the most fashionable resort in Europe. It gained wide renown as a worldly, devilishly charming little city, much loved for its natural setting of forest, dunes and sea, but also for its sport, culture and gastronomic pleasures.
