The Kitzeberg Golf Club was founded on March 22, 1902, making it the oldest German-founded golf club that has existed without interruption. However, at the top of the list of founding members is not Kaiser Wilhelm II, but his brother, His Royal Highness Prince Heinrich of Prussia. The founding meeting was probably the social highlight in Kiel that evening.
The accumulation of barons, court marshals, grand admirals, lieutenant captains and senators apparently favored the provision of the necessary capital for the construction of a court and clubhouse. Nine holes invited to play and the clubhouse to celebrate, which has changed little to this day. But shortly before the end of the first century of club history, a new era began. On August 5th, 2000 the second nine holes were opened.
As early as 1992, the decision was made to expand the hilly complex with its magnificent old trees (park landscape). Six more years passed before the building permit was granted. Since 1998, around 25,000 cubic meters of earth have been moved, 1,200 meters of bends with around 3,200 trees and shrubs created and 200 trees planted. The 18-hole course enabled the golf club to break new ground. Now it was time to increase the number of active members.
For the 100th anniversary in 2002, a new clubhouse was moved into and a spacious driving range was opened.
