The Utrecht Golf Club ''De Pan'' is located on the western flank of a moraine from the Saale Ice Age, known as the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and is one of the most beautiful and oldest courses in the Netherlands. ''De Pan'' is laid out on very sloping grounds made of postglacial drifting sands and lies like a hidden jewel in unspoilt nature.
In 1928 the renowned track architect Harry S. Colt designed the track on these inland dunes and deck sands. The hand of the master can be recognized in the gently sloping, sometimes saddle-shaped greens and in the diagonally aligned obstacles of ridges and of almost natural-looking bunkers.
The layout of the course is well thought out and very compact. The distance between a green and the next tee is small and the holes are relatively short, so that the majority of players can walk the 18 holes on foot. However, it remains a challenge to score well on the undulating fairways framed by plots of heather.
Despite the proximity of cities and traffic routes, the Utrecht Golf Club ''De Pan'' is an oasis of peace and quiet that invites guests, individually or with a group, to enjoy this.
