On October 17, 1959, the fourth-oldest golf club in Schleswig-Holstein started playing with a drive from the German senior champion Hermann Rohwer.
Founder Consul Thomas Entz-von Zerssen won the legendary golf course architect Dr. Bernhard von Limburger for transforming the Loher Heide, a 33 hectare heath and forest area, into a 9-hole course. Around 36,000m³ of earth had to be moved in order to create more challenging holes for the golf course.
On October 7th, 2000 the new 18-hole championship course was opened
The veteran clubhouse, where many championships and tournaments were celebrated, was no longer sufficient and an extension was needed. At the start of the 2005 season there was a new clubhouse, equipped with extensive facilities. Thanks to the generosity of the Entz-von Zerssen family, who bequeathed the grounds of the old 9 holes to the Lohersand Golf Club and through the acquisition of the remaining areas leased until 2008, the club has been playing on its own land ever since. Top-class championships and prominent golf guests, above all HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, adorn the long history of the club.
Much has changed in more than 60 years. However, what has remained is the members'' pride in a golf course with a unique landscape, personal commitment and traditional hospitality.
