With the invaluable help of golf course architect Robert Muir Graves, La Purisima Golf Course was developed to be the finest, purest test of golf one could imagine. It started with a great place – 309 acres of gently rolling, oak studded, ancient sand hills 30 miles north of Santa Barbara. In just 10 short years, La Purisima played host to the 1996 PGA Tour Final Stage Qualifying. The 108 hole qualifier was rain shortened to a 90 hole event. A 90 hole total of “even par” punched your ticket to the PGA Tour. The allure of the challenge has since left many golfers perplexed as to how they can defeat this behemoth. Locally known as La Piranha, this course is 7,105 years of pure golf. There are no commercial developments or housing surrounding the golf course and we plan to keep it that way … Pure! Unlike other clubs in the area boasting their course as the “best kept secret in golf”, there is no secret about La Purisima. Bring your “A” game, as it will be tested. La Purisima continues to host many U.S.G.A. Championship Qualifiers and SCGA Amateur Championships.
Golfers of all abilities come to test their game here. PGA pros, celebrities, amateur hopefuls – all those in-the-know about California’s best courses, know La P.
The course at La Purisima has twice received four and a half stars from readers of Golf Digest, including the 2004 poll (only famed Pebble Beach ranked higher), and at one point, was ranked as the 33rd most difficult course in the country. La Purisima is here for you … come tame the beast.
