Temple Golf Course is a classic design by Willie Park Junior. Willie Park is a two-time Open Champion in 1887 and 1889. He was one of the earliest golf writers and one of the world’s best golf course architects. Not only did he design our wonderful course here at Temple but he also designed other famous courses including the Old course at Sunningdale, Aldeburgh and Huntercombe.
Willie Park was truly a global golfing pioneer designing courses in Britain, Europe, America and Canada. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013.
From the 1st tee you know there is something special about this course with the Thames Valley spreading out before you and Marlow and the River Thames in the distance.
Measuring 6,210 yards in length and with a Par of 70, the golf course is built on chalk downland and hence is free draining and less affected by adverse weather conditions than many others.
Capturing the true essence of Willie Park Jr. design it has a challenging and interesting layout that is difficult enough to test the low handicap player but friendly enough to encourage those with higher handicaps, and on no two consecutive days are golfing conditions the same.
Temple is an ideal golf course, undulating but not unduly tiring, and one where a game of golf can be enjoyed in picturesque and tranquil surroundings. Many visitors, both from the UK and overseas, return time and again to play and enjoy this classic Willie Park Jr. course.
